A person in business attire is seated on a stage with Michigan and Northwood University flags in the background, speaking and gesturing with one hand. A table with flowers and a glass of water is beside them.

Northwood University invites the community to hear from two renowned business leaders who will be featured later this month as part of the first Leadership Insights: A View from the Helm events of 2024.

Andrew N. Liveris, former chairman and CEO of The Dow Chemical Company and the former executive chairman of DowDuPont, will be featured Feb. 13. Robert J. Grubb, Northwood University trustee and managing director of Mt. Audubon Associates, will be featured Feb. 27.

“Leadership Insights: A View from the Helm, is a speaker series we started last year to give our students and greater community an opportunity to learn from influential and effective leaders,” stated Dr. Kristin Stehouwer, provost and academic vice president at Northwood University, and host of the Leadership Insights fireside chats.

In naming the series, Northwood President Kent MacDonald took inspiration from the book, View from the Helm, by Dr. James Duderstadt, who served as president of the University of Michigan from 1988 to 1996. The Leadership Insights series features notable leaders, of Dr. Duderstadt’s caliber, who have held c-suite or similar positions.

Prior Leadership Insights speakers include former U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos; William S. Stavropoulos, former CEO and chairman, and chairman emeritus of the Board of Directors of The Dow Chemical Company (Dow); Terence F. Moore, former president of the Midland Hospital and then MidMichigan Health System (MyMichigan Health); Chris Clements, senior vice president and chief financial officer for the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium; and Bill Hanvey, president and CEO of the Auto Care Association.

Northwood students, alumni, faculty and staff, as well as members of the greater Midland area and beyond are invited to this series. The sessions are live-streamed to reach online students and individuals living in other locations in the U.S. and internationally.

Liveris’ Leadership Insights appearance is set to take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the McNair Center for the Advancement of Free Enterprise, located in the Plaster Building off Naegele Drive. The Feb. 27 Leadership Insights featuring Grubb is scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m., also in the McNair Center.

Each session will allow audience members to gain insights into the leader’s personal stories and thoughts related to a wide range of leadership topics.
