Northwood University and Saginaw Valley State University are waging a friendly competition to collect personal hygiene products for veterans.

“As America’s Free Enterprise University, Northwood University is proud to take on SVSU for the second consecutive year to help veterans through the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition’s Fill the Trailer project,” stated Dr. Christie McDonald, director of financial aid and collection leader for Northwood. “As Northwood defends our win from last year, we hope the Midland community will support our efforts in a way that win or lose, makes a difference in the lives of our veterans and their families.”

According to Brad Blanchard, director of the Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition, items collected will be distributed to homeless and low-income veterans and their families.

“We are grateful to Northwood and SVSU for engaging in a way that supports the Fill the Trailer project,” Blanchard stated. “The items collected are used in hygiene kits distributed by the Saginaw VA to veterans from the mid-Michigan area to the Mackinac Bridge.”

Each item collected grants the respective school 1 point. Items can be collected until Nov. 30, 2024. A full list of items being collected can be found online here.

Northwood drop-off locations include:

• Church Family Administration Building

• Athletic Office

• DeVos Graduate School

• Student Union
