From markets and morality to the threat of cancel culture in the financial industry, the second edition of Students in Defense of Freedom has a wide array of free-enterprise topics featured in essays written by Northwood University students.

“This publication reflects how Northwood students think critically and seriously embrace individual responsibility and self-determination,” stated Northwood President Dr. Kent MacDonald. “Each article gives the reader insights and lessons from the perspective of a current Northwood student.”

Known as America’s Free Enterprise University, Northwood University published the first edition of Students in Defense of Freedom last year. The student editor who led the first publication — Andrew Reder, of Larkin Township — has returned for the second edition.

“Once again, Students in Defense of Freedom has given students the chance to express their thoughts and showcase their writing abilities at Northwood University,” Reder stated. “We hope readers will appreciate this year’s edition.”

Essays included in the second edition of Students in Defense of Freedom include:

• “Markets and Morality” by Majestik Dudley, of Saginaw

• “The Fall of the Berlin Wall” by Danijela Danilovic, of Subotica, Serbia

• “The Constitution: What it is and Why it Matters” by Alexander Noel Tokarev, who is dual-enrolled at Northwood University

• “Debanked: The Threat of Cancel Culture in the Financial Industry” by Andrew Reder

• “Reserve Currency Crumble: Can the Dollar Stay Dominant?” by Riley Hayer, of Clare

• “A Financial System Which Rewards Failure and Punishes Success” by Kristin Tokarev, who earned her master’s degree last year and is currently working with Dr. John Stossel in New York City to promote the values of freedom and limited government, as espoused by The Northwood Idea

“We hope this collection of essays will inspire future students who join this distinctive and important university,” Reder stated.
