Two Northwood students recently competed in the National Shores Sales Challenge held April 4-6 in Maryland.

“This immersive event connected me with hundreds of like-minded students from across the country,” stated Ben Muxlow, a Brown City/Madison Heights junior who is majoring in management information systems (MIS) with a minor in marketing. “It was a great opportunity to learn sales and connect with job opportunities and peers outside of my circle.”

Muxlow attended the April 4-6 National Shores Sales Challenge with Wyatt Caldwell, a Holly senior who is majoring in international business. The challenge was hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Sales and Marketing Institute at Salisbury University, which invites universities from across the country to register their two best sales students.

“Events like these are essential to give our students sales-related experiential learning opportunities,” stated Dr. Andrew Anderson, assistant marketing and sales professor at Northwood University. “My goal is to introduce our students to the variety of sales career opportunities across various industries.”

The National Shore Sales Challenge is sponsored by Perdue Farms, a fourth-generation, family-owned U.S. food and agricultural company based in Salisbury, Maryland. In addition to a role-play and speed-selling competition, students participated in a career fair featuring internship and full-time job opportunities from more than 40 companies.

“This event was one where everyone could learn and thrive. I gained valuable experience participating in the competitions and networking with other student attendees and employers,” stated Caldwell. “I would recommend this experience to anyone interested in a career in sales, embarking on a personal challenge, or just wanting to try something new.”
