Six DECA students qualify to compete in San Francisco

In April, six Northwood DECA members will compete in San Francisco, California, following success at the Michigan Collegiate DECA State Career Development Conference in Bay City, Michigan.

“We are very proud of our entire team, which showcased its talent and competitive spirit at this state competition,” stated Northwood DECA Chapter Advisor Patrick McElgunn.

During the Feb. 7-9 state competition, Northwood students went head-to-head with competitors from Central Michigan University, Cleary University, Eastern Michigan University, Kettering University, Michigan State University, Michigan Technological University, Oakland University, Wayne State University, and Western Michigan University.

Northwood University’s team earned three finalist placements, and six members qualified to attend the Collegiate DECA International Career Development Conference in San Francisco in April.

Northwood students earned honors in the following categories:

• Alexandra Kinney of Midland (No. 2 in Entrepreneurship Operations)

• Peyton Loriaux of Holly (Finalist in Entrepreneurship Operations)

• Wilson Bragg of Gladwin (Finalist in Financial Accounting)

• Lauren Waiss of Sturtevant, Wisconsin (No. 2 in Advertising Campaign)

• Emma Balsinger of Barberton, Ohio, and Lila Bolden of Boyne Falls (No. 1 in Business Research)

Jessica Broomberg of Pinconning (No. 2 in Business Research)

• Maya Schmidt of Bridgman (Finalist in Entrepreneurship)

• Evan Baker of Grandville (No. 3 in Professional Sales)
