Following the American Mock Trial Association’s Regional play in Dayton, Ohio, Northwood University Mock Trial has secured a spot to compete in the Opening Round Series Championships (ORCS).

“I could not be more proud of our students, as they have shown tremendous growth since the beginning of the season,” stated Northwood Mock Trial Director DeLois Leapheart. “Our newer members continue to increase their skills and contributions to NU’s success in competitions.”

Northwood Mock Trial students will head to Cincinnati, Ohio on March 14-15 to compete in the ORCS. If they win there, they will advance to nationals in April.

The following Northwood students competed at the Dayton Regional Tournament:

  • Excellent Abikphi, Midland

Along with the team awards, Northwood University’s Barrett Tefft won an Outstanding Regional Attorney Award.

The regional competition in Dayton came after Northwood Mock Trial took home first-place honors in January during an online tournament that was sponsored by the University of Toronto.

Also in January, Northwood Mock Trial earned fourth place at the Michigan State University Mock Trial invitational tournament. Riley Hayer and Barrett Tefft won Outstanding Attorney Awards, and Julian Lee won an Outstanding Witness Award at this event.

Professor Leapheart is grateful to Northwood alumni for their efforts to help foster a successful Mock Trial season, including Assistant Coaches Stephen Dunn and Jacob Walters.

“Thanks to their help, we are becoming more successful in every tournament we compete in,” she added.
