To help celebrate Veterans Day Thursday, November 11, Northwood will provide free American flags through its Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise program created by the University’s Signature Events Team.
Northwood University students created this program to help celebrate and honor local veterans by offering American flags to the community as part of a package. Each package includes a 3’x5’ American-made flag, a Northwood decal, a copy of The Northwood Idea pamphlet, and additional promotional information about Northwood. If you are interested in receiving a flag, please fill out the Flags, Freedom and Free Enterprise form.
To raise awareness of Northwood’s concept and teachings of the practice of capitalism, personal responsibility, and freedom, the University established the Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise program. Flags are gifted to the community and Northwood supporters through this student-led program to symbolize patriotism and freedom. The Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise project aims to provide flags to individuals and small businesses who support The Northwood Idea, have an interest in flag etiquette, and have a desire to show gratitude towards local retired and active men and women who are in the military.
“The Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise program was launched in June 2021, for Flag Day with a tremendous response from the community,” said Justin Marshall, Vice President of Advancement and Business Development at Northwood. “We are pleased to be able to offer flags again in time for Veterans Day as a means of showing our appreciation to those who have served our country.”
Northwood plans to continue the distribution of Flags, Freedom, and Free-Enterprise packages on other notable days of American patriotism throughout the year.
Additionally, the Signature Events group of students assists the University’s Advancement department with its four “signature events”: Bay Harbor, Auto Show Gala, Distinguished Women Gala, and Outstanding Business Leaders Gala. The student-led organization helps plan and execute the events mentioned above and engage with honorees and alumni.
University President Kent MacDonald praised Northwood students for the Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise project, “Once again, Northwood students reflect The Northwood Idea by recognizing heroes in our community while celebrating the American flag and all it represents.”
In addition to this offer, Northwood University has other student-led groups hosting events to celebrate Veteran’s Day. Please visit the Kappa Sigma fraternity Instagram page for more information on these events or on Facebook.
