Yearning to get away to an island-theme paradise? Look no more, as Northwood University is hosting its 47th annual Stafford Dinner, where attendees can enjoy a relaxing, warm ambiance in island cocktail attire.
The Stafford Dinner was created in memory of Mr. William D. Stafford, the first chairman of the Hotel, Restaurant & Resort Management Department at Northwood Institute. From 1969 to 1972, Mr. Stafford shared his knowledge about the hospitality industry and incorporated it into the curriculum.
Each Stafford Dinner event introduces students to hands-on skills and real work experience as they step out of the classroom and provide guests with an amazing evening. These students have always planned, prepared and implemented this evening’s festivities.
“Putting together the menu for this year’s dinner has been fun and challenging,” said Food and Beverage Chair Kylee King. “I am so excited to see our visions come to life!”
Cora Dewan-Smith, who is co-chairing the event with Raquel Escamilla, noted her first dinner on the board was sadly canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“With this being my last year at Northwood, it is very exciting to finally see the dinner through, especially as co-chairwomen,” she added.
This year, attendees will be able to enjoy island featured entertainment while dancing the hula and partaking in a limbo challenge. Festivities also will include a silent auction, pineapple bowling, and more.
“The 47th Annual Stafford Dinner has taught me a lot about event planning,” said Decorations Chair Kameron Haag. “I am very thankful for this experience that I was given. I can’t wait for everyone to see the decorations the night of!”
Net proceeds from the dinner directly support Northwood University Hospitality program scholarships.
“Last year the 46th Stafford Dinner board practically planned four to five different approaches in making the night happen,” noted Co-chair Escamilla. “This year, we are excited to be back and bring everyone on our vacation.”
The event is set for 5 p.m. February 26 at The H Hotel, 111 Main St., Midland. The H Hotel will be providing a cash bar.
