To feature candidates vying to represent Midland County in Congress and Michigan House and Senate
Northwood University is inviting the public to a July 20 Evening with Your Candidates event in Bennett Sports Center.
“We are delighted to invite the public to this event here at Northwood next month,” said Northwood President Kent MacDonald. “What could be more fitting than for Midland’s University to host a forum featuring candidates who are seeking to represent Midland County at the national and state levels.”
Also known as America’s Free Enterprise University, Northwood plans to focus the discussion on economics. The following candidates have been invited to attend:
2nd District U.S. House Representative: Jerry Hilliard (Democrat); John Moolenaar (Republican); and Thomas J. Norton (Republican)
8th District U.S. House of Representative: Dan Kildee (Democrat); Paul Junge (Republican); Candice Miller (Republican); and Matthew Seely (Republican)
34th District State Senate: Christine Gerace (Democrat); Roger Hauck (Republican); and Lisa M. Sowers (Republican)
35th District State Senate: Kristen McDonald Rivet (Democrat); Martin Blank (Republican); Annette Glenn (Republican); Tim Kelly (Republican); and Christian Velasquez (Republican)
95th District State House of Representative: Matthew Dawson (Democrat); Larry Grell (Democrat); Ann Manary (Republican); Charles A. McGinnis Jr.; and Bill G. Schuette (Republican)
“We have had an outpouring of positive reception from the campaigns — in fact, no campaign has sent in its regrets since invitations were issued earlier this month,” MacDonald noted. “So we’re anticipating a very healthy turnout, and we are confident this will be an event that stands out from the crowd on the campaign trail leading up to the August primary election.”
Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the program will begin promptly at 5:30. It will be moderated by Provost and Vice President of Academics Kristin Stehouwer; Dale Matcheck, chair of Northwood’s Economics Department; and Glenn Moots, chair of Northwood’s Political Science and Philosophy Department.
Those planning to attend are highly encouraged to register in advance for preferred seating. You can register online at the event webpage. Northwood also plans to livestream the event, in conjunction with MCTV. Follow Northwood University on social media or visit the event webpage for more information.
