Naegele Scholarship Competition winners named

Northwood University is pleased to announce the winners of the 2023 Naegele Scholarship Competition.

The Naegele Scholarship Competition awards at least $1,500 to all presenters who compete for the Patricia and Robert Naegele Competitive Scholarship. The winners earn more scholarship dollars based on their presentation. 

The following students are 2023 Naegele Scholarship Competition winners:

• Makaylah Anderson of Midland

• Maze Gusa of Ubly

• Jacob Boisvert of Clarkston

• Steven Hackbarth of Midland

• Ashton DiBlasi of Saginaw

• Laney Jakeway of Harbor Springs

• Dominic DeFelice of South Lyon

• Nathan Surbrook of Midland

Robert and Patricia Naegele are iconic figures at Northwood. Although both have passed away, their legacy lives on through their past support of campus projects like Naegele Drive and Naegele Village Apartments, and their support of a variety of scholarships like the Patricia and Robert Naegele Competitive Scholarship.

To compete for Naegele scholarship funds, high school seniors write an essay and give an oral presentation about the American Dream. This year, there were 18 finalists who were invited to Northwood to present their work in front of selected Northwood faculty, including Academic Dean Dr. Patricia Timm.

The following students received honorable mention honors and $1,500 in scholarship funds:

• Ariel Warner of Shepherd
