Northwood University is among the 2024 Great Colleges to Work For, a prestigious recognition from The Chronicle of Higher Education. The university achieved Honor Roll status, excelling in 8 out of 10 categories in one of the largest and most comprehensive workplace studies in higher education.

Northwood President Kent MacDonald attributed this recognition to the university’s dedication to fostering an environment where employees feel valued and supported.

“Northwood prioritizes overall employee wellness and satisfaction,” stated President MacDonald. “When people feel valued, students receive better service and enjoy an enhanced experience. We seek and retain employees who genuinely care about one another. This fosters a positive workplace for all.”

This year’s achievement is especially significant, as Northwood has been named to the Honor Roll, recognizing exceptional performance in the following categories:

  • Job satisfaction and support
  • Mission and pride
  • Faculty and staff wellbeing
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Supervisor/department chair effectiveness
  • Shared governance
  • Professional development
  • Confidence in senior leadership

“We are thrilled to be on the Honor Roll,” stated Pam Christie, associate vice president of human resources. “To be recognized in eight different areas speaks to Northwood’s commitment to fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture that benefits faculty and staff. Our team is deeply invested in the success and wellbeing of our employees, and this award affirms that dedication.”

The 2024 results place Northwood among the Top 30 four-year institutions in America, stated Lori Isenhart, senior human resources generalist/benefits specialist.

“In the six years Northwood has participated in the Great Colleges to Work For survey effort, this is the fourth time we have been named a Great College to Work For, and achieving Honor Roll status this year is an incredible milestone,” Isenhart added. “It reflects the collaborative culture we cultivate at Northwood, and it’s wonderful to see that the hard work of our employees is being acknowledged on a national scale.”

The Great Colleges to Work For program was launched in 2008 by The Chronicle of Higher Education, a top trade publication for colleges and universities. The Chronicle works with ModernThink to survey hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide to assess workplace quality across various categories. This year’s survey collected responses from more than 103,000 faculty and staff at institutions across the United States.
