Northwood University’s Forum for Citizenship and Enterprise is pleased to announce this semester’s speaker series “America and the World”. Throughout the next couple of months the forum will host speakers from around the world to discuss the United States’ role in the world today and in the past.
The first speaker will discuss “The U.S. and Japan in Modern History” with Professor Hiro Aida. He is a professor of journalism and intellectual history at School of Global Studies and Collaboration, Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. He is also a contributing editorial writer for Japan’s Kyodo News in Tokyo and an editorial board member of The American Interest magazine in Washington, D.C. where he has written highly regarded articles on American foreign policy past and present. Aida has also served as columnist, chief editorial writer, chief senior writer and bureau chief in both Washington and Geneva, and has been contributing writer for a number of major Japanese magazines. He has been a visiting professor at Kansai University in Osaka, as a research associate at the Center for Interdisciplinary Study of Monotheistic Religions of Doshisha University in Kyoto and as a guest lecturer at prestigious universities in Tokyo while working as a journalist. Professor Aida is a graduate of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. This keynote will take place on Thursday, September 5th at 7 p.m. in the Griswold Lecture hall
The next Keynote in the series will discuss “America’s Relationship to the Middle East” with Mohammed Nosseir. He is a writer, entrepreneur and politician who works to advance liberty, political participation and economic freedom in Egypt and the Middle East. Nosseir has served in leadership in Egypt’s Democratic Front Party and the Free Egyptian Party. He has supplied Egypt’s government with public policy proposals intended to reform institutions and stimulate entrepreneurial ideas to challenge his country’s political, economic and social status quo. His work has earned him appointments as a fellow with Stanford University’s Center for Democracy, Development & Rule of Law, the Aspen Institute, and the Eisenhower Fellowships’ Multi-National Program. As managing director of Global Marketing Consultancy based in Egypt, Nosseir also assists a number of international and regional companies in expanding their businesses in the Middle East. He graduated from Ain Shams University, Cairo. This keynote will take place on Wednesday, September 18th at 7 p.m. in the Griswold Lecture hall
“Coming to a conclusion about America’s proper role in the world requires knowing not only what Americans think about the world, but also what the world thinks about America. This is the global perspective our students need to be leaders, and these September speakers will help provide that perspective,” said Glenn Moots, Northwood University’s Professor of Philosophy and Political Science, and the Director of the Forum for Citizenship and Enterprise.
There will be further keynotes and debates on “America and the World” that will be announced within the coming months. The event is free and open to the public.
