Northwood Esports this week won the Fall Overwatch National Championship.
“It has been an amazing semester for the team, and this win just further cements us as the best collegiate Overwatch team in the country,” stated Aden Frosch, team manager for Northwood Overwatch. “I’m excited for what next semester brings as we try to push to be the first team to win the entire academic year by winning both the Fall and Spring national championships!”
The Timberwolves went undefeated in both regular season play and the playoffs. The team includes Donovan “Cowman711” Koch, of Mentor, Ohio; Michael “Mikeyy” Konicki, of Ledyard, Connecticut; Samuel “S9mm” Santos of Manhattan, Kansas; Mason “Boat” Earle of Anaheim, California; Haven “Haven” Healy of Castle Rock, Colorado; Ciaran “DevilWood” Deller of Wokingham, United Kingdom; Diego “Vega” Moran of Fort Worth, Texas; and Landon “Landon” McGee of Jupiter, Florida.
“This version of the Northwood roster is honestly the strongest it has ever been, and we’re looking to continue our domination into next semester,” stated Moran. “It’s always fun being seen as the team to beat, and I can’t wait to help bring another championship to the Northwood dynasty!”
Esports is an umbrella for numerous competitive games, similar to a university’s athletics department serving as an umbrella for multiple traditional sports. So Overwatch is to an esports program what football is to a university’s athletics program.
Fall Overwatch national tournament play was conducted virtually this week. The spring season begins in February and runs to May.
This is Northwood Esports’ third national championship this season. The other national titles won were in Valorant and Rocket League. Northwood Esports is now home to 14 national championships and two world titles.
