Master Drawings from Northwood University’s Collection are on display in a one-of-a-kind exhibition at the Midland Center for the Arts.

This exceptional gift was donated to Northwood University by an anonymous donor in 1973. It was later placed on a long-term loan at the Midland Center for the Arts for safekeeping. This expansive collection of over 100 drawings covers 400 years of infamous Italian, French, German, Flemish, and Dutch artists from 1517-1914. The exhibition looks at drawings by Auguste Rodin, Marie Rosa Bonheur, Annibale Carracci, Jean Auguste Dominque Ingres, Jean-Honoré Fragonard, and Salvator Rosa, to name a few of the notable artists in this extraordinary collection.

“We are so excited about this exhibition. These drawings showcase some of the oldest works we’ve had on exhibit since returning from the flood of 2020,” stated Jennifer Kanyo, director of education at Midland Center for the Arts, in a news release.

As ‘Midland’s University,’ Northwood is proud to partner with the Midland Center for this unique exhibition, stated Justin Marshall, chief development and engagement officer for Northwood University.

“Northwood University has always believed the arts and business make great partners, and we continue that legacy today through these kinds of partnerships, in the classroom, and public outdoor art on-campus,” Marshall added.

The exhibit, which is being funded and hosted by the Midland Center for the Arts, will be open on weekends Sept. 15 through Nov. 12. The Center will host a free art reception for Master Drawings from Northwood’s Collection from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.

In addition to the art reception, the Center will launch a Beyond the Exhibit series alongside this exhibit, beginning with Clare Rogan and the Old Masters, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12. Patrons can explore the Northwood University Collection of rare works with Dr. Clare Rogan, curator of prints and drawings at the Detroit Institute of Arts.
