Northwood University Florida students recently had the opportunity to view their professors in a much different light as they attended the Northwood University Florida Career Services Fashion Show.
After an official welcome from Northwood University President Dr. Tom Duncan, the interactive event opened with a variety of networking, interviewing, and appearance tips from image coach Pamela Toussaint. A fashion show then followed, initially demonstrating the importance of first impressions as professors Jennifer McFarland and Dr. JB Ward demonstrated ‘what not to wear to a job interview’ by modeling inappropriate attire. It then culminated with Northwood University resident assistant students modeling appropriate business attire provided courtesy of Dillard’s department store and The Men’s Wearhouse.
“As professor McFarland modeled garb more appropriate for a night out on the town, Dr. Ward’s ultracasual get-up appeared to be put together after just stepping out of bed,” laughed Midge Reichert, Northwood Florida’s Director of Career Services. “The occasion set the stage for our students to gain amusing and memorable lessons which will remain with them for years to come,” she smiled.
Now, with over 20 years of Human Resources experience, and 10 years of teaching at the university level, Reichert focuses on career development for students and employees. After earning her Master of Science degree in Human Resource Development/Organizational Leadership, Reichert was offered an adjunct position teaching at Northwood University. Her reputation as a trainer and consultant has led to assignments to create and facilitate workshops in HR Management Essentials, Workplace Diversity, Sales Training, Career Planning, Systems Thinking Integration, Writing Job Descriptions and more. She has served as a guest speaker for numerous professional organizations, including the Business and Professional Women’s Association on the state and local level, and the Human Resources Association of Palm Beach County.
Northwood University provides career planning assistance to traditional, Adult Degree Program, DeVos Graduate School students, as well as Northwood Alumni. The Career Services center is available to assist students with career exploration, confident and professional self-marketing, and developing successful job search techniques. The office provides a number of career-related activities and events including a series of mini-career fairs throughout the school year, a business etiquette dinner program, on-campus interviews, and professional workshops.
