The Mackinac Center for Public Policy and Northwood University are hosting a free lecture, “The History of the Western Enlightenment — And Why It Matters Today,” by Yaron Brook, chairman of the board of the Ayn Rand Institute, on April 29 in Griswold Lecture Hall.
In his lecture about the Western Enlightenment — which was a transformative era that reshaped human history, ushering in unprecedented advancements in science, philosophy, individual rights, and economic freedom — Brook will explore the key ideas and figures that defined the Enlightenment, tracing their profound influence on the modern world.
In addition to his leadership role with the Ayn Rand Institute, Brook can be heard on The Yaron Brook Show. He is the author of several books, including “In Pursuit of Wealth: The Moral Case for Finance,” “Equal Is Unfair: America’s Misguided Fight Against Income Inequality” and “Free Market Revolution: How Ayn Rand’s Ideas Can End Big Government.”
Brook was born and raised in Israel. He served as a first sergeant in Israeli military intelligence and earned a BSc in civil engineering from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. He moved to the United States in 1987 where he received an MBA and PhD in finance from the University of Texas at Austin. He became an American citizen in 2003.
His April 29 lecture at Northwood University will begin at 7 p.m. Drinks and appetizers will be served at 6 p.m. The event is free to attend but attendees need to register here by April 22.
