“My time at Northwood were the best years of my educational career. After attending Delta College for a few years, I transferred to Northwood University to pursue a BBA in Hospitality Management. Though I knew my time at Northwood would be short, I wanted to be involved in my program as much as possible. I was an active member of the hospitality division of the Northwood University International Auto Show for two years, serving on the executive board as the Food Tent Manager in 2019. During my time at Northwood, I was also honored to be a part of the executive board of the 44th and 45th Annual Stafford Dinner, solidifying my love for planning special events. Being the 44th Annual Stafford Dinner Procurement Chair and the 45th Annual Stafford Dinner Decorations and Logistics Chair was challenging yet so fulfilling, helping me develop skills I knew I would need in my career. I was also a member of the Northwood University Hospitality Enterprise Club while working full time as a Front Desk Agent for a local Marriott hotel. All of my classes, club and community interactions, and work experience lead me to be the 2020 recipient of the Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth Hospitality Award, the greatest honor I could have received as I closed out my college career.
After continuing work for Marriott as a Front Desk Supervisor during 2020, I am now a Marketing Support Coordinator for SERVPRO of Saginaw / Bay City, one of the largest SERVPRO franchises in the country. I started my journey with Team Miller’s twelve SERVPRO franchises in May 2021. As a Marketing Support Coordinator, I am happily putting the skills I learned from Northwood into action, planning events, engaging in the community, and creating a marketing plan so that the business can continue to thrive. My time at Northwood University has set me up for a lifetime of success and satisfaction in my career.
One of my fondest memories of Northwood will always be spending time and planning events with the other hospitality students and out professors. Not only were my professors’ experts in the hospitality field, they did everything in their power to push their students and give them invaluable connects in the hospitality field. Nick, Karla, Taffy, and Randy were inspirations in all that they have accomplished in the hospitality field. They all wanted to emphasize the importance of studying the theory of hospitality but also highlight the importance of action and commitment that the field requires. They set up hands-on tours of hotels, country clubs, sports stadiums, and the famous trip to the Grand Hotel, giving us an invaluable look into the real world we were about to enter. I could not be more grateful to have spent my time with the amazing students, faculty, and staff I was able to meet during my educational journey. If I had to do it all over, I would choose Northwood every time.”
