My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that as an educator my responsibility is to create lifelong learners by modeling the process of learning to my students. The process of learning is more important than content because content is continually changing. I believe that learning is broadly applied to all areas of life and that our students need to be lifelong learners. I consider learning not just an individual activity but a function of social relationships between students, faculty, support staff, and administrators. Structured and unstructured interactions offer teachable moments, whether with faculty, staff or students. I believe in transformational learning that goes beyond skills acquisition to change the studentsโ way of thinking by expanding their frames of reference. I teach because I love to learn.
Why I am at NU
I chose to be at Northwood University because I believe in the Northwood Idea and our mission to develop future leaders of a global free-enterprise society and because I see every day how the NU community is passionate about supporting our students to reach their full potential. I am impressed by the quality of the students attracted to Northwood University. They are driven, and passionate. They have entrepreneurial mindsets that will benefit them whether they choose to start their own business or act as an intrapreneur while working for an organization. I am proud that hose that employ our students describe them as being able to ‘hit the ground running’ and well prepared for their career.
