Owner, Eco Wise Waste Management
Manik Thapar is passionate about sustainability – a passion that was ignited when Manik was getting his Master’s in Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree at Northwood University. A Canadian citizen with Indian origins, Manik is the founder and CEO of Eco Wise Waste Management in New Delhi, India. During his M.B.A. studies, Manik identified an opportunity in a country with poor waste disposal systems that generates thousands of tons of waste daily. He took his Northwood project, “Turning Waste into Wealth,” and put it into practice in India with impactful results. Eco Wise, established in 2006, offers comprehensive waste management solutions to residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial entities in India. Its process includes collection, segregation, transportation, and assistance to the recycling industry.
Eco Wise is now one of the largest plants of its kind in India. Manik started by collecting waste from two municipal sectors in Noida, India which collectively contain 60,000 homes. Now, Eco Wise has 13 locations across India and expanded its services to include document and product destruction, electronic waste management, and composting products. Eco Wise activities divert more than 60 tons of waste from ending up in landfill sites daily.
As a pioneer in the waste management industry in India, Manik’s work has been published extensively in the media in India and abroad and is known for its unique business model. He’s currently exploring ways to produce energy out of waste through an anaerobic digestion plant which takes wet garbage and converts it into compressed natural gas and electricity.
In addition to founding Eco Wise, Manik is the founder of Monday High, an Indian lifestyle brand focused on providing sustainable clothing manufactured from natural plant-based materials such as hemp, bamboo, and banana fiber. He’s also the founder of Eco Wise Trading which specializes in waste monetization practices.
Manik received Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in 2004 and an M.B.A. in 2005 from Northwood University.
