J. W. Fisher, a lifelong resident of Midland, Michigan, has dedicated his career to building excellence in the construction industry through his leadership at Fisher Contracting Company, where he has served as President since 1990. His journey in construction began with the Fisher family businesses, where he started by designing ready mix concrete mix designs, overseeing quality control operations for gravel pits and concrete plants, and filling in as dispatcher for the concrete plant.

After earning his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1979, and becoming a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan, Fisher advanced through various roles, including Mix Designer and Quality Control and Project Foreman before becoming the President in 1990. Today, he serves on the Board of Directors of the ten individual Fisher Companies, demonstrating his comprehensive understanding of the construction industry.

Fisher’s leadership extends well beyond his company roles. He has been instrumental in shaping the construction and business landscape of Michigan through his service as Past President of the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association and the Midland Business Alliance. His commitment to safety and professional standards is evidenced by his past presidency of the Great Lakes Safety Training Center and chairmanship of the Construction Owners Safety Team in Midland.

Currently, Fisher continues to drive community development through his role as a Board Member of Tri Star Trust Bank of Saginaw and as Chairperson of the Great Lakes Mental Health Partnership. He also co-chairs the Midland Business Alliance Advisory Committee on Infrastructure, working to strengthen the region’s fundamental systems. His past service includes leadership positions with the Associated Builders and Contractors’ Saginaw Valley Chapter, Tri County Contractors Association, and Wolverine Bank Corporation.

Together with his wife of 37 years, Yvonne, Fisher has raised four children while maintaining a strong commitment to community service. The couple serves on several boards for local for-profit and nonprofit organizations, exemplifying their shared dedication to the growth and prosperity of the Midland community. Their partnership in both family life and community service demonstrates the values of leadership and civic responsibility that have characterized J. W.’s career and personal life.
