CEO & President, Auto Care Association
Bill Hanvey, MAAP, is a veteran leader in the auto care industry, serving as president and CEO of the Auto Care Association. Under his leadership, the association has championed key industry initiatives, including securing the passage of Right to Repair legislation in Massachusetts and Maine, ensuring the industry’s designation as an “Essential Service” during the pandemic, and driving workforce development efforts to sustain the next generation of automotive professionals.
With over 40 years dedicated to the aftermarket, Hanvey has been a relentless advocate for the entire supply chain. Before taking the helm of the Auto Care Association in 2015, he played a pivotal role at the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA, now MEMA Aftermarket Suppliers) as senior vice president, where he represented North American parts manufacturers before government agencies, the business community, and the broader auto care sector.
Hanvey’s career has been defined by his ability to drive industry growth and innovation. At Tenneco Automotive, he gained hands-on field sales experience before advancing into leadership roles. As marketing director of FleetPride, he successfully unified 37 independent companies into what is now the largest heavy-duty parts distributor. His tenure as vice president of marketing at Dorman Products, Inc. saw a doubling of sales for “OE dealer exclusive” parts, reinforcing Dorman’s position as an aftermarket leader. At Schaeffler Group USA, he led the North American aftermarket team, spearheading a strategic transition from co-manufacturing to direct sales.
Beyond his executive roles, Hanvey has been instrumental in shaping industry standards and policies. He played a key role in developing an industry agreement with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce copper content in brake pads, demonstrating his commitment to sustainability and regulatory leadership. His service includes chairing the Auto Care Association’s Marketing and Communications Committee and acting as a staff liaison for key industry councils.
A sought-after speaker and recognized industry leader, Hanvey was honored with the AWDA Mort Schwartz Outstanding Industry Leadership Award in 2020 and has been named Northwood University Educator of the Year. He serves on the boards of the Automotive Aftermarket Charitable Foundation, the University of the Aftermarket Foundation, and the St. Bonaventure Alumni Board.
