1981 – North Palm Beach, Florida
Lois Cohee Hamilton was born in New Haven, Connecticut. She attended the New Haven Business College and the School of Interior Design. Moving to St. Petersburg, Lois began her own decorating business. Mrs. Hamilton was vice president of the Suncoast Heart Association for eleven years. She was given a citation and award as the Outstanding Citizen of Pinellas County and she served on the board of Mental Health, the Children’s Home Society and the Chamber of Commerce. She is a lifetime member of the All Children’s Hospital. Lois founded the city’s first Symphony Guild, whose projects raised large contributions for retarded children. She is a charter member of the Museum of Fine Arts of St. Petersburg. She and her late husband, Henry (Hank), resided for many years in Palm Beach. Lois has been an active member of the Palm Beach Opera, Norton Art Gallery, Visiting Nurse Association, the Palm Beach Republican Club and the Good Samaritan Hospital Guild. She is well-known as the founding chairman of the Northwood National Women’s Board Palm Beach chapter and was a tireless worker for the Northwood Auction Committee and the Northwood Store. Lois Hamilton believes wholeheartedly in the free enterprise system that Northwood offers. “I have great respect and admiration for Drs. Arthur Turner and Gary Stauffer for their devotion and unselfish efforts to bring their great philosophy and ideals to further success and perfection.” A scholarship, established by Florida newswoman Veda Graves and supported by friends and admirers, has been established at Northwood in Lois Hamilton’s name.
