1989 – Atlantis, Florida
Emalie Dodson and her late husband, Donald, lent great spirit and impetus to the growth of the Northwood campus in Florida. Her leadership of the Palm Beach chapter of Northwood’s National Women’s Board inspired a number of innovative activities and the involvement of many women and men. Her Northwood golf tournament led to the new involvement of Atlantis area friends. Emalie also spearheaded the highly successful now annual Noel Luncheons and organized the chapter members to be effective liaisons with the Florida community. Mrs. Dodson’s public service has always reflected her creative ideas, whether serving Lakewood Hospital and St. Jude’s Children Fund in Cleveland, or Northwood University. Each has been the beneficiary of her talents in both fashion design and the arts. Emalie was a born organizer and is highly popular with her many friends and co-workers. Mrs. Dodson attended Immaculate Conception, Ursuline Academy, Mercyhurst and received a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English. She taught fashion design at Penn Institute in Cleveland. The Dodsons had three daughters and six grandchildren. Emalie said, “I believe in Northwood’s philosophy of free enterprise which provides a successful background for students and makes them better citizens for tomorrow.” (Deceased 1997)
