Lois Sloan Gaigalas, now retired from operating an independent tax and accounting service, is a graduate of the University College of Northwood University. Graduating summa cum laude with a B.B.A. degree in Business Administration, she was honored in 1991 with a Northwood Outstanding Alumni Award. She was honored again in 1994 as a Distinguished Women’s Award recipient. Lois’ business background consists of broad experience in areas of financial management, systems and accounting. Her business affiliations provided many opportunities to participate in community affairs with such organizations as New Detroit, Cranbrook Institute of Science, Michigan Amateur Athletic Union and others. She also taught for Northwood’s Midland campus. Lois has served on the corporate board of three companies. She has been a volunteer officer and director of the Birmingham Senior Center and The Settlement Center as well as a volunteer at The Birmingham Community House, in the IRS-AARP Tax Assistance Program and at her church. After serving as Church Treasurer, she now chairs the church’s endowment fund, the first member to do so. She was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 1996 for that effort. She has been a member of the Executive Board of the Detroit chapter of the Northwood National Women’s Board and on the FAD Auction Committee. She advocates for youth through the scholarship programs of Northwood University, which she has generously endowed.
