Irene S. Wischer has been fascinated by the energy business since the day she started work as a temporary stenographer at Panhandle Producing Company�s predecessor. Her rise to chairman, president, chief executive officer and director of Panhandle Producing Company testifies to her intelligence and dedication. Mrs. Wischer has for several years been a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America�s Executive Committee. She also serves as a member of the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners� Executive Committee and is very involved in the political arena, both statewide and nationally. She also works for her community: as a member of the Board of Trustees for Trinity University, immediate past chairman of the board of Southwest Research Institute, the board of directors of the San Antonio Medical Foundation, the past vice chairman of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Texan Cultures, board of governors of the YMCA, chair of the Advisory Council of the Girl Scouts of America and as a KLRN Public Television board member. She was recipient of the prestigious award of Chief Roughneck representing the Independent Petroleum Association of America. Mrs. Wischer was married to the late Earl H. Wischer, who was involved in ranching and investments. They have two children and five grandchildren. (Deceased, 2007)
