The Northwood University campus will be closed from December 23rd until January 2nd for the holidays.

Maggie Allesee

Maggie Allesee contributes an extraordinary amount of time to southeast Michigan’s leading civic and charitable activities. She serves on the board and several committees of the family business, Acheson Industries, Inc. while simultaneously lending her expertise to numerous organizations and institutions. She currently serves on boards of the Oakland University School of Nursing and its Department of Theatre, Music and Dance, the Detroit Historical Society, Friends of Oakland Family Services, Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade, the United Way Volunteer Council, the Wayne State University Understudies and the Cultural Council of Birmingham/Bloomfield. She is also the chair of the new Ballet Council of the Michigan Opera Theatre. Many of her efforts have been directed toward evolving community needs. She was co-founder of the “Women Alone” program for the Birmingham Senior Coordinating Council, founding member of the Hospice of Michigan, originator of “Media On Parade” for the Salvation Army and “Fran’s Follies” for St. Dunstan’s Guild. She is also a longtime volunteer for the March of Dimes and has served as president of PROS – People Reaching Out. Maggie has established a reputation as one of the city’s most dynamic volunteers. She has been honored as “an extraordinary person who does exceptional things with humility and kindness”. She received the United Way Heart of Gold Award in 1989, the American Lung Association Women’s Committee Volunteer Award, the National Society of Fund Raising Executives Award and the Award for Excellence from the local chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. A former journalist and school teacher, Mrs. Allesee graduated from Florida State University with a degree in English and journalism. She has a master’s degree in education, guidance and counseling, and a post masters degree in gerontology from Wayne State University. She is married to radio/television personality Bob Allesee.
