2003 – Rancho Mirage, California
Born in North Dakota, Helen Reinsch grew up in Southern California and now makes her home in Rancho Mirage for a major part of the year. She also spends time in Frederick, Maryland and Pentwater, Michigan. Always a supportive and venturesome spirit, Helen moved with her sons and late husband Harry thirty two times before his retirement as president of Bechtel Power Company. Helen continues to enjoy visiting interesting places and people. Helen is well known for her commitments to important causes. She has served as a board member for Shelter From the Storm in California (where she funds the Helen M. Reinsch Legal Clinic), is a supporter of the Advocates for Homeless Families in Maryland and a leader for the Andre Bosse Center for Abused Children in Hart, Michigan. For many years she has been a leading contributor, patron and active committee member for the Desert Chapter of Northwood’s National Women’s Board & Friends. In particular, Helen supports groups that help families, women and children. “Because I was not able to attend college, I am particularly interested in supporting groups that give scholarships (to assure that others can). I strongly believe that education is the key to getting out of poverty and lessening abuse,” she says. Mrs. Reinsch most recently has received the Friend of the Year award from the Rancho Mirage Library and the 2001 Angel Award from Shelter from the Storm, for her outstanding active service and support.
