Dorothy Marie Ross was born in Whiteford, Maryland and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase Senior High School. She lived in Maryland and Virginia while employed in Washington, DC for the U.S. Government, American Automobile Association and Automotive Old Timers, the forerunner of the Automotive Hall of Fame, Inc. She has the rare quality of self-development management skills which enabled her to lead and guide the growth of the Automotive Hall of Fame, Inc., an international organization composed of men and women of the automotive industry. Miss Ross served as its chief administrator and operating officer from 1963-1981 and as President and CEO from 1981-1985. She has been a resident of Midland since 1971 when the Hall of Fame headquarters were established on the campus of Northwood. Miss Ross is the recipient of Automotive Hall of Fame’s Distinguished Service Citation, Notable Americans Award, Dictionary of International Biography Certificate of Merit Award, Automotive Aftermarket News Automotive Leadership Spotlight Award and Northwood’s Automotive Replacement Education Award. She has served in many official capacities within her church. In October, 1985, upon retirement as President and CEO of the Automotive Hall of Fame, she received the Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from Northwood and the State of Michigan’s Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 415 honoring her for outstanding performance for the Hall of Fame and automotive industry.
