1972 – Midland, Michigan
Mildred Short will always be known as “Mrs. Northwood” because she set the finest example of complete devotion and dedication to the success of the school. She assisted Drs. Arthur E. Turner and R. Gary Stauffer and helped found Northwood, sharing their work, tribulation and faith. Mrs. Lawrence H. Short came to Northwood with administrative and secretarial experience with several businesses. She became oriented to the education world and quickly adapted to meet the requirements of her job in the early years of Northwood’s history. In spite of her devotion and no-limit hours on the job, she also advanced a number of other worthwhile causes. She found particular pleasure in her memberships in the Midland chapter of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Chippewa chapter of the Professional Secretaries International, St. Brigid’s Altar Society, the Midland Coterie Club and Northwood’s National Women’s Board, National Library League and Town & Campus organizations. Mildred was the mother of two daughters. She retired in 1984 after twenty-five years with the University and resided for many years at Midland’s Riverside Place. (Deceased 1994)
