Dorothy Weber Sohrweide was co-founder and partner with her husband, John, in one of the most successful restaurant operations in the country, Southern Hospitalities, Incorporated. Mrs. Sohrweide’s activities included: membership on Northwood’s National Women’s Board and the University of Wisconsin Alumni Board, past president of Opt-Mrs. of Dallas, work with President Eisenhower’s Council for Better Schools, Garden Gate Garden Club, past president, Reviewers’ Book Club, member, Mayor’s Action Committee for Goals for Dallas, fund-raising for Muscular Dystrophy, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society and Dallas Heart Association, member, Crippled Children’s Camp Auxiliary, Denton State School for Exceptional Children Auxiliary, Sunshine Home Auxiliary and the National Restaurant Association. In addition, Dorothy was First Lady of the Texas Restaurant Association, president, Women’s Auxiliary to the Dallas Restaurant Association and received the Freedom Award from the Freedom Foundation as well as the 100 Hour Award from Denton State School. She co-chaired the Northwood Texas FAD Auction and was named Texas’s Outstanding Lady of Food Service for 1977. She and her husband were devoted early supporters of Northwood – founding many innovative student and support programs for the hospitality curriculum. (Deceased 1991)
