1975 – Midland, Michigan
Anne Swan’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson Nicklin, were native Detroiters. Anne grew up there and attended the Detroit Country Day School and Kingswood School, Cranbrook. During high school, she was in Winnetka, Illinois, but returned to Albion College in Michigan, where she met her husband, William D. (Pete) Swan. They have a son, David and a daughter, Kathryn and several grandchildren. Mrs. Swan’s activities have included work as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, PTA executive board member, volunteer school nurse and librarian, Sunday School teacher and member of the Pediatrics Guild and Gift Shop Guild of MidMichigan Medical Center, where she assists in display and sales. She is also an active member of the Midland Town & Campus chapter of Northwood’s National Women’s Board. She serves on the executive board of Town & Campus and served as co-chair of the FAD Auction in Midland for twenty-five years. She is the recipient of the Town & Campus Silver Service Award and was the National Chairman for the Northwood National Women’s Board Memorial Gifts program. A scholarship at Northwood was named in her honor by grateful students and colleagues. Of the college, Mrs. Swan says, “The Northwood ethic teaches independence and reaffirms the American system. I am impressed by the enthusiasm and vigor of the thousands of young people attracted to its campus each year. They are by far the most clear demonstration of the school’s validity.”
