Dorothy Lucile Volk was born in Port Arthur, Texas, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernst George Hill. She and her husband, Harold Francis Volk, had three children. Mrs. Volk studied foods, nutrition and institutional management at Texas Woman’s University where she received B.A., B.S. and M.A. degrees. Following graduation, she was research assistant to Dr. Arthur Grollman at Southwestern Medical School, Department of Experimental Biochemistry. She served on boards and committees of the Dallas Health and Science Museum, Dallas Girl Scouts Council, National Girl Scouts, Dallas Symphony Orchestra League, Dallas Symphony Orchestra Association, Inc., Dallas Civic Opera, Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, Dallas Child Guidance Clinic, Dallas Civic Ballet Society, Women’s Council of Dallas County, Inc., Planned Parenthood of Dallas, Family Guidance Center of Dallas, West Dallas Community Centers, Educational Opportunities, Inc., National Jewish Hospital Women’s Board and numerous other civic organizations. In 1976, she served as judge for the Outstanding Youth Volunteer in Dallas and the Women’s Division of the State Fair of Texas. She is a recipient of the Thanks Badge, a Girl Scouts of America National Board Award, and the Distinguished Alumna Award from Texas Woman’s University. (Deceased 1995)
