Barbara Clarke Dow is a graduate of the Waynflete School, Portland, Maine and Wheelock College in Boston, Massachusetts and has her master’s degree in Art. She was married to the late Herbert H. Dow, a past member of the board of directors and secretary of The Dow Chemical Company and past president of the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation. Their children are Dana, Willard (Hank) and Pamela. Barbara Dow was a founding member of the Town & Campus chapter of the Northwood National Women’s Board, a co-chairman of the first Northwood Bon Appetit Series and was chairman of the Northwood Gallery Committee, as well as a recipient of the Northwood University Silver Circle Award (1979). She has been president of the Woman’s Study Club, Midland Art Council and the Post Street Workshop for artists. She is past chairman of Northwood’s Town & Campus. She also has served on the Board of Trustees of the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan and the American Crafts Council, whose headquarters is in New York City. She serves on the Barrows Neurological Institute Women’s Board in Phoenix and has been active in support of numerous medical, education and arts causes. “My interest in Northwood is one of increasing enthusiasm. I wholeheartedly support the Northwood Idea and applaud the many instances in which this philosophy has prepared individuals to compete in today’s complex society.” (Deceased 2005)
