Betty Buchanan attended Butler University and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She has two sons, Brian and Bruce Buchanan. She has been involved in extensive volunteer work through the years, particularly in the health care and political areas. In recognition of her efforts she has received several awards, including the Sagamore of the Wabash Award from the Governor of Indiana and the Best Precinct Team in Indiana in the 1976 General Election from Governor Otis R. Bowen, M.D. and Lt. Governor Robert D. Orr. Betty Buchanan has served on numerous boards and committees and is most proud of her involvement with Methodist Hospital, where, starting in 1961, she assisted the six chaplains by visiting with the patients and their families. Her extensive work on behalf of Northwood includes FAD auctions and the Taste of Indianapolis. She was a member of the executive committee of the Indianapolis chapter of the Northwood National Women’s Board. “I am dedicated to the philosophy of the Northwood idea and excited about the vocational approach to higher education supported by a liberal arts foundation. This is a realistic approach to education…combining business and the arts.”
