Billye Stevens Halbouty is a southern belle in the truest sense, born and educated in Mississippi. She maintains the quiet, genteel characteristics of her southern heritage. She has long been interested and active in cultural and charitable endeavors such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the Houston Heart Association, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Houston Youth Symphony and Ballet Guild, March of Dimes and Northwood University. Billye chaired the Houston Grand Opera’s Ball for two consecutive years and raised over one million dollars. She also chaired the Town and Country magazine Houston READ Commission Gala and the Commission’s $2 million Capital Campaign. In 1989 Billye and her husband, Michel, the internationally renowned geoscientist, were named Cultural Leaders of the Year in recognition of their efforts and contributions to Houston. Both are highly visible in a multitude of civic, cultural and charitable endeavors. In addition, Billye served as Gala chairman for March of Dimes benefit and was named a Woman of Distinction by The Houston Post and a Fabulous Fund-Raising Femme by the Greater Houston Women’s Foundation. Always recognized for her keen sense of fashion, Billye was named one of the Ten Best Dressed Women in Houston in 1990 and 1992 and elected to its Hall of Fame in 1994. Billye continues to maintain her high level of involvement in Houston’s charitable, civic and cultural endeavors through her encouragement and support of the younger generation becoming more active in these areas. Recently, she and her husband were selected as honorees of the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s annual event and raised more funds than the Houston chapter had ever achieved. There is no doubt Billye brings a wealth of experience, dedication and a very positive view to the arena of fundraising for worthy causes. Needless to say, in the Houston area, Billye Halbouty is acclaimed for her record setting successes.
