Amid national blood shortage, Northwood University invites the community to participate in a Feb. 8 blood drive.

Donors have the chance to win an all-expense paid trip to a destination of their choice, thanks to Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, which is hosting the blood drive in the Hach Student Life Center at Northwood University.

The drive will be held from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Feb. 8, and attendees are encouraged to make an appointment online at versiti.org/mi.

Earlier this month, the American Red Cross reported an emergency blood shortage as the nation faces the lowest number of people giving blood in 20 years.

“Currently, blood products are going to hospitals faster than blood donations are coming in,” states a Jan. 8 press release from the American Red Cross.

The upcoming blood drive at Northwood University is being facilitated through the office of student affairs.

“Northwood is happy to continue to partner with Versiti in this latest blood drive,” stated Dean of Student Affairs Andy Cripe. “At Northwood, we pride ourselves on our ‘Go MAD’ mantra that encourages our entire community to ‘Go Make A Difference,’ and blood drives like this are just one way our students, faculty and staff do that.”

All donors who participate in the Feb. 8 blood drive at Northwood University will get a $10 e-gift card. All attempted donors will be entered for a chance to win one of two weekend getaway packages that include gas, lodging and spending money to a destination of the winner’s choice. If you plan on donating, make sure to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water prior to your appointment.
