The Omniquest selection for the 2015 spring semester, chosen by the Michigan campus, is American Icon by Bryce Hoffman.
American Icon is the compelling, behind-the-scenes account of the epic turnaround of the Ford Motor Company. On the verge of collapse, Ford recruited Alan Mulally to lead a restructuring of the company and applied the principles he developed at Boeing to streamline Ford’s operations, force its executives to work together as a team, and spark a product renaissance in Dearborn. Mulally used his Business Plan Review meet¬ings to drive change and force Ford to deal with the painful realities of the American auto industry.
Bryce Hoffman is an award-winning writer, speaker and consultant for newspapers in California and Michigan. As a reporter for The Detroit News, he had a front-row seat for the events surrounding the auto industry collapse in 2008 which he chronicled in his bestselling book, American Icon. Hoffman left journalism to help companies understand and apply the management secrets he learned from Ford and other companies. He lives in Fenton, Michigan.
This selection is a great and timely read, and we know it will be easily incorporated into all classes and curricula.
