Northwood supported American Heart Month by offering the American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver CPR AED class on February 7. The class taught cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an Automatic External Defibrillator.Summer Smith stated, “The course was very helpful. The previous courses I have taken were not as elaborate. Glad I was able to take this course with updated features.”
“This class was engaging, fun and informative. I now feel confident in my CPR abilities thanks to this class” said student Brent Corley.
The Center for Disease Control states that cardiovascular disease (CVD) including heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure is the number 1 killer of women and men in the United States.
On February 14, Northwood offered the AHA Heartsaver First Aid class. This course provided a framework for learning basic skills that may save a life or prevent further personal injury. It covered recognizing and providing first aid for heart attacks and strokes supporting the American Heart Month theme.
Student Ian Folsom commented, “The class was interesting and fun. Everyone was ready to learn.”
Through these Texas campus activities we have raised awareness of heart disease and provided resources to aid in response to a medical emergency.
