Northwood Mock Trial Team Competes at Notre Dame

The Northwood University Mock Trial teams competed in the first round of the elimination season February 22 at Notre Dame University. Two Northwood University teams joined 24 other teams to compete for eight bids, earning two of those eight bids.Northwood Team 930 earned eighth place and a bid to ORCS by winning their rounds against DePaul University and Hillsdale College. Northwood 930 also split ballots in their rounds against Michigan State University and another team from Hillsdale College. The team of Stephanie Hentschel, a senior from Midland; Matthew Williams, a junior from Livonia; Amee Cox, a senior from Liverpool, England; Yancy Cobb, a senior from Detroit; Ibrahim Lawton, a junior from Pontiac; and Myisha Ishmeal, a senior from Southfield, finished with a record of six wins and two losses, qualifying for the next round of competition. In addition, Northwood 930 was also recognized as an honorable mention for the Spirit of American Mock Trial Association Award (AMTA) which is awarded to the team that best exemplifies the ideals of honesty, civility and fair play. Northwood’s Amee Cox was the recipient of an Outstanding Witness Award on both sides of the case with 18/20 ranks on the defense and 17/20 on the prosecution.

Northwood Team 931 earned fifth place and a bid to ORCS by winning their rounds against the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Kentucky. Northwood 931 split ballots in their rounds against the University of Michigan and Cornell College. The team of TC (Thomas) Sample, a junior from Westland; Terrence Green, a junior from Hesperia; Jalisa Harris, a sophomore from Belleville; Aaron Grace, a junior from Flushing; Kathleen West, a junior from Birch Run; Anthony Wnoroski, a junior from Uniontown, OH; Holly Redlawski, a junior from China, MI; and Jeremiah Dohms, a senior from Mildmay, Ontario, finished with a record of six wins and two losses, qualifying for the next round of competition.

Opening Round of the Championship Series (ORCS) will be held in Waukegan, IL, during the weekend of March 14-16, 2014.
