The Northwood University Florida Entrepreneurship Society pitch competition recently unveiled a variety of creative ideas for startup companies, including a removable wallpaper invention, software applications designed to improve shopping and night life experiences, and the winning entry – software tailored to assist legal marijuana dispensaries by utilizing an e-commerce platform. “I was motivated to develop my software after observing how it helped a close friend who was battling cancer,” said winning pitchman Chase Dittmer, a Northwood Florida freshman majoring in Entrepreneurship.
“The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well at Northwood,” said adjunct professor George Stamas, who oversaw the event. “This was our third annual pitch competition and we had five extremely creative pitches for startup companies.” The competition provided students the opportunity to deliver compelling presentations to a panel of judges. Panelists included alumna and member of the Northwood Florida Board of Governors, Karen Stedman, of the Stedman Fleury Accounting Firm; Ron Gaither, President and CEO of First City Bank of North Palm Beach; and Dr. Michael Olsher, Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship and Economics at Northwood University.
The Northwood University Entrepreneurship Society was created to bring individuals together to network in an environment where their entrepreneurial ideas and concepts for enterprise can be supported and accelerated. With help from one another, the Society fosters the future leaders of a free enterprise system, developing both knowledge and character to enable entrepreneurial dreams to become a reality.
In addition to providing students the opportunity to participate in entrepreneurial roundtables and pitch competitions, Northwood University’s Entrepreneurship program offers Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, business support, mentoring opportunities, workshops, and training opportunities that focus on intellectual property rights, and more.
