Northwood Esports recently won four new titles, including the Intel Collegiate Rocket League Championship and Intel Collegiate Overwatch Championship in Texas, and the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Call of Duty Spring National Championship and NACE Rocket League Spring National Championship, both in Indianapolis.
“This was another stellar weekend for the Timberwolves,” stated Coach/Advisor Cody Elsen. “This is just more proof that we have built the best competitive program in the world for college esports. I am so excited to see what the summer championships bring!”
Northwood Overwatch defeated Illinois State University (3-2) in a series that was called one of the best in collegiate esports history. Graduating senior Leo Gzebb, of Hawthorne, California, stepped in for Christopher “CJAY” Smith, who recently signed to the professional Overwatch League, and Gzebb helped lead the Timberwolves to the title.
Northwood Rocket League (White) defeated St Clair College 4-0, outscoring the Saints 16-4 during the series. Freshman Zander Shah, of Newton, Pennsylvania, was the scoring leader with 10 goals. Northwood White is one of two teams attending the Collegiate Rocket League World Championship in June.
Northwood Call of Duty faced Oklahoma Christian University in Indianapolis this weekend for the NACE National Championship. The Timberwolves took the match 4-2. Freshman Dylan Mock, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, helped fuel Northwood to victory.
Northwood Rocket League (Blue) defeated West Virginia University 4-1, earning the NACE Rocket League Spring National Championship. Sophomore Hunter Woitas, of San Tan Valley, Arizona, was the scoring leader, averaging 2 goals per game. Northwood Blue is the other Northwood team that qualified for the Collegiate Rocket League World Championship in June.
