Northwood University is providing free American flags to members of the community and University supporters as part of its Flags, Freedom and Free Enterprise Program to raise awareness of Northwood’s concept and teachings of the practice of capitalism and free enterprise.
A commitment to community
The goals of the Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise Program are to provide flags to individuals and small businesses who support The Northwood Idea, have an interest in learning more about the American flag and its symbolism, as well as a desire to show gratitude toward local retired and active men and women who are in the military.
Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise is a student-led program. Each package includes a 3’x5’ or 2’x3’ American-made flag, a Northwood decal, a copy of The Northwood Idea pamphlet, and additional promotional information about Northwood.
“By offering flags, we hope to strengthen the relationship between Northwood University, known as ‘America’s Free Enterprise University,’ and the Midland area community,” said Justin Marshall, chief development and engagement officer. “The Flags, Freedom, and Free Enterprise Program ensures that people have a better understanding of The Northwood Idea, which is the guiding philosophy of Northwood University, where we value liberty and business for all.”

A commitment to veterans
Northwood has a 40-year history of supporting our military, and the Michigan Department of Veteran Affairs recognizes Northwood University as a Gold Star Status Military Friendly School.
The Midland-based university provides a number of military benefits, including discounted tuition for veterans and their family members; dedicated military and veteran advisors; local Veterans Certifying Officers and academic advisors; and the option of getting college credit for prior military training. Veterans and their families can enroll for online or in-person learning.
This summer, Northwood announced it is partnering with Folds of Honor to provide two full-ride tuition scholarships to family members of fallen or disabled service members who choose to continue their education at Northwood University.
A commitment to excellence
Northwood has received many honors for its service to those who have served our country. Last month, Northwood was named a 2022 Best for Vets College by the Military Times. Earlier this year, Northwood placed in the top third of colleges ranked by U.S. News & World Report for best online bachelor’s programs for veterans.
Donors who believe in liberty and supporting fallen or disabled soldiers and their families can help by making a donation on Northwood’s giving webpage.
