Northwood University trio to play in 2022 Collegiate Rocket league World Championship
Northwood University will be competing against 15 other universities from around the globe this weekend in the 2022 Collegiate Rocket League World Championship.
The tournament, which will be held in Dallas, Texas, is the first major intercontinental competition for collegiate Rocket League teams and players.
Representing Northwood will be the following players: Stephen Hoelbinger of West Deptford, New Jersey; Hunter Woitas, of San Tan Valley, Arizona; and Alexander Che, of San Antonio, Texas.
Esports Coach Cody Elsen praised the team ahead of this weekend’s tournament,
“This year has been a foundation-building moment for the program, getting the chance to compete at the World Championship sets the tone for years to come for the program,” stated Northwood Esports Coach Cody Elsen. “I am extremely proud of all of the hard work the students have put in to get to this moment.”
Since Fall 2020, Northwood University’s Esports team has achieved great success. They are four-time national champions; 31-time league/conference champions; and they have won 20 tournament championships. In the last two years, their viewership has also grown to over 15.8 million views.
