Northwood University alumni have rallied to donate $10,000 toward a student-led effort to build a Career Closet in Midland.
Professor Chelsea Butcher’s Sustainability Science class is working on a NU Career Closet for the community to come and acquire business attire for job interviews and more. Students reached out to the community this month in efforts to garner donations of all sizes of neutral and basic attire, including blazers, blouses, dress shirts, undershirts, button-up shirts, suits, dress pants, skirts, tights, khakis and dresses, in addition to dress shoes, briefcases, ties, jewelry, watches, belts and socks.
“The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and our students are so grateful to the community and our alumni for supporting this effort,” Butcher stated.
Students were elated this week to learn their NU Career Closet project has been selected as this semester’s Project 100 funding recipient.
Project 100 is a development initiative intended to put the power in the hands of the donors. A group of 100 Northwood alumni, employees, and friends gathers once every semester to review three projects from campus groups requesting funding. The members each donate $100 and then collectively decide which project receives the funding.
“This is the 10th project we have funded, which means Project 100 has now given $100,000 to projects spearheaded by students on campus,” stated Julie Adamczyk, executive director of Alumni Relations for Northwood University. “Project 100 embodies who we are at Northwood by nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit and through our support of one another.”
Previous projects funded by the group include:
Spring 2017 — Fashion Retail Software
Fall 2017 — Student Life – Woody’s Wheels Campus Golf Cart
Spring 2018 — Timby Media Productions Equipment
Fall 2018 — Automotive Aftermarket Project Car
Spring 2019 — Student Alumni Network Outdoor Activities
Fall 2019 — Hospitality Enterprises Food Truck
Spring 2020 — Cancelled due to pandemic
