A number of Northwood students have written winning essays about Vaccine Mandates and Liberty: Where Should We Draw the Line?
That was the topic of this year’s Bauervic Essay Competition, which is funded by the Charles M. Bauervic Foundation.
Through this highly competitive essay competition, students are challenged with taking on a current topic, conducting research on said topic, and drafting a paper detailing their findings.
The annual essay competition is unique in that it seeks to engage students at a deeper level by offering two experiential learning opportunities.
This year, Northwood University once again partnered with the Mackinac Center for Public Policy for the purpose of designing and hosting two informative talks on the essay topic. The first talk featured Dr. Dale Matcheck, professor and chair of the Economics Department at Northwood University, and Mr. Michael Van Beek, director of research for the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
These experts shared their perspectives on the balancing of vaccine mandates and liberty. The second talk was designed to help students in the drafting of a winning essay. For this talk, Northwood University student Andrew Reder joined the panel of experts to offer his unique perspective as a young scholar.
Both of these events took place on the campus of Northwood University, with attendees also having the option to attend virtually.
