Business Week’s 1976 List of 100 Top Corporate Women cited Muriel Fox as the “top-ranking woman in public relations.” She is former executive vice president of Carl Byoir & Associates, one of America’s largest public relations firms. A founder and past chairwoman of the National Organization for Women, she is honorary board chairwoman of the NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund and a founder and past president of The International Women’s Forum. She is listed in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who In The World and Foremost Women of the Twentieth Century. A director of Harleysville Insurance Companies and vice president of Rockland Center for the Arts, she has been a director of Rorer Group, Child Care Action Campaign, American Arbitration Association, International Rescue Committee and United Way of Tri-State. A summa cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Barnard College, she lectures worldwide on the American Women’s Movement. She received Barnard’s Distinguished Alumna Award, NOW’s Eleanor Roosevelt Leadership Award, the Achievement Award of American Women in Radio and Television, Americans for Democratic Actions’ Business Leader of the Year Award and the Matrix Award from New York Women in Communications. NOW LDEF, creating the Muriel Fox Award for Communications Leadership Toward a Just Society, presented its first “Foxy” to Muriel herself.
