Marion Shea was committed to volunteer services on behalf of causes ranging from helping the blind to supporting the arts. She served on many boards including the Animal Samaritans, S.P.C.A., the Newport Harbor Art Museum’s Visionaries and the prestigious CRES (Center for the Reproduction of Endangered Species) at the San Diego Zoo. She contributed to the growth of Northwood in Palm Springs through the FAD Auction scholarship program and her involvement with the Women’s Board. Marion and her late husband, Jack Shea, were honored with an award for their commitment of twenty years to the Newport Harbor Art Museum. They have also received two awards from the Valley Missionary Program and were named Patrons for helping to build the first Hispanic cultural center in the Coachella Valley. They annually sponsored dogs’ training for Guide Dogs of the Desert and helped build the Mexican Red Wolf exhibit at the Living Desert. The Sheas had five children and eight grandchildren. Marion was proud of her association with Northwood University and believed education, with love, is the only salvation to world problems. (Deceased 1997)
