Dr. Sonya Friedman was the long-time host of the CNN informational/news program, “Sonya Live.” In addition to television Dr. Friedman was an ABC talk radio psychologist for ten years and a columnist for the Detroit Free Press for ten years. She is the author of the books “Secret Loves: Women With Two Lives,” “On A Clear Day You Can See Yourself,” “Men Are Just Desserts,” “Smart Cookies Don’t Crumble” and “A Hero Is More Than Just A Sandwich.” Her literary works have been on the New York Times Best-Seller lists. Her ability to translate her knowledge and training in psychology to everyday concerns and to news events has made Dr. Friedman one of the most highly regarded psychologists in the country. In 1993 she was awarded the American Psychological Association’s Presidential Award for outstanding contribution through the media to the public understanding of psychology. In 1991 she received the first annual Star award from the American Women in Radio and Television honoring her continued commitment to the issues and concerns of women. And in 1993 she received America’s Women of Distinction Award from the Crohn & Colitis Foundation. She is also an Emmy and Ace Award winner. She received her master’s degree in educational psychology and a doctorate in psychology from Wayne State University in Detroit and has been in private clinical practice for the last twenty years in Birmingham, Michigan.
