Betty Jane Schmidt Divosta

January 1, 1998

1998 – North Palm Beach, Florida

Betty J. DiVosta’s feeling about work and people is to follow the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you”. She believes in failures, just learning experiences. She follows these beliefs every day. For the past forty years, Betty has been a partner with her husband “Buz” in the residential home building business. DiVosta and Company, Inc. has built over 20,000 homes in South Florida ranging in price from $8,990 to $2,500,000. In the beginning, Betty was the DiVosta and Company banker, lawyer, accountant, salesperson, and “Mom” to four great children. As the company grew (by the 1980s there were 1,200 employees on the payroll), Betty’s responsibilities did not change but she did have help in the office, a lawyer, a CPA and an accounting staff. Betty designed most of the financial worksheets that are still being utilized in the company’s accounting department. Now that Mrs. DiVosta does not need to come to the office every day, she is finding time to be a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lost Tree Chapel, chairperson of the Worship Committee, and donate her time ( and a new home to be auctioned each year) for the Association for Retarded Citizens. In addition, Betty oversees the contributions and services provided to many charitable organizations by DiVosta and Company. The rest of her free time is spent enjoying her four children, their spouses and twelve grandchildren.
