Lynn Ferron

January 1, 2000

2000 – Bloomfield Hills, Michigan

Lynn Ferron, a former elementary and preschool teacher, has demonstrated her strong interest in education in every community in which she’s lived. From her first teaching encounter as a Head Start teacher’s aide in Texas to her work with Northwood, she has championed the cause of “educating the whole student”. This philosophy has easily translated into agreement with the Northwood Idea – the combination of free enterprise, entrepreneurship and the arts. Northwood University has a special place in Lynn’s life. Her two sons, Brady and Kevin, were students and her husband, J, is a member of the Board of Trustees. Together J and Lynn chaired the first Detroit International Scholarship Showcase and continue to serve as advisors. Lynn also served as the Detroit Chapter Chair of the National Women’s Board & Friends of the University. Lynn was born near Chicago, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Tech University. In frequent moves during childhood, Lynn saw the importance of communities and families in children’s development and always looked for opportunities to become involved. In neighborhoods from Ft. Worth to Washington, DC, Lynn has been involved with childhood development and community self-help programs. In Detroit she has served on boards of volunteer organizations that add to the community’s quality of life and learning. She is President of The Friends of Oakland Family Services. Other board service includes: the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Volunteer Council Board, Friends of the Red Cross Board, Cranbrook Art Academy Women’s Committee Board and Cranbrook House and Garden Auxiliary Board. She is also a member of the Women’s Committee for Hospice Care, Bloomfield Farm and Garden Association and the Bloomfield Hills Women’s Golf Board and Legatus.
